Thanks for confirming what I already suspected from the previews. Actually I can't stand Will Smith anyway...he just has too much of the "Fresh Prince of Bell Air" type comedian about him. Miscast in serious movies like this. A.I. was great however (+ no Will Smith). I ROBOT sucked!

What next?
by jefferywhat inso in the last year two major qfr came out, one on the fds not being any more special than the gc in terms of enlightenment and the second being that 1935 is no longer a "thing".
this was followed up with a change of the generation being the fds.
then numbers go up this year and apparently, alot of the new converts in the fertile lands of mexico are claiming to be of the anointed.

Whatever changes they make it is totally reactionary. "New Light" is really nothing more than the Society being forced to admit their mistakes, more often than not through the march of time catching up with them, or through some organic change or situation that has developed in the worldwide brotherhood, eg, memorial partakers increasing substantially in the last few years.
If the partakers keeps going up at the rate it has in the last few years, the Society will eventually be forced to reconsider whether the 144,000 is literal or symbolic, but it would be years away.
I believe that after 2014 comes and goes, many JW's who have been barely hanging on will finally decide to give it up. Meeting attendance and donations could fall off dramatically. So we are not likely to see any changes of any real significant until at least 2015.

Observation of WT during Assembly
by Robert7 inso i recently attended an assembly day, and this added ammo as to why i am turned off:
- they did a very good job saying how anything that is not 'of jehovah' is worldly and from the devil.
so black & white.

Where's Jesus? Compare how much the first century Christians, like Paul, preached Jesus and how much the Watchtower society does.
The Watchtower Society is an IDOL that has usurped the honour that is due to Jesus. It has produced nothing but 6.6million Watchtowerites worshipping the Watchtower IDOL, not genuine Christians.

Good JW Growth for 2007
by voltaire indear all,.
i don't see that anyone has commented on the 2007 report.
i must say i was surprised with the impressive growth, not only worldwide, but in the developing countries which have seen some decrease in the last few years.

I think it shows that no matter how much bad publicity the organisation gets & no matter how many apostates there are out there trashing the org, it will always get growh as long as the GB can stir up the feeling that Armageddon is close and there is a bit of accompanying doom n gloom in the news. The GB have been pounding the fear drums hard lately and it is paying off for them. Just look at the 2008 yeartext. As long as they keep creating that fearful sense of expectation that something big is around the corner, they will keep increasing. We live in a very fearful, harsh world and this plays right into the GB's hands. Many people are fleeing to religion for comfort and the JW's are benefiting from this mini revival in religionism.
In some ways, this 3.1% blip, against all odds, is proof positive that the religion is really nothing more than a fear-based, doomsday cult full of mind-controlled, brain-washed fearful people. All they care about is the vain illusion that being a JW will save their ass at Armageddon & they will get the 'prize' of living in their fantasy paradise earth. That's what motivates 90% of them. Truth & righteousness comes a distant second.

How many JW's are leaving the the org each year - is the figure rising?
by Must obey! ini think i've seen clever posters work out how many leave the organisation each year, or at least stop being 'publishers'.

How about an alternative annual worldwide report that shows the 'real' picture. This would make a really good tonic to counteract the rather depressing news that JW's have had a 3.1% increase in publishers in 2007.

Why is this info in the Child Sexual Assult & Child Abuse thread? A mistake?
It's no surprise the stats have gone up with all the doom and gloom on the horizon re Iran nuclear threat, middle east tensions, oil prices, crashing housing market, US dollar practically kaput, economic depression on the horizon.....a lot of JW's are secretly imagining the end of the system really, really is close this time....it just has to be...really...this is it now...its so close I can feel it...only months away...has to be this time, surely this system can't last much longer...all the signs are there....the GB know it...just look at 2008's yeartext...it has to come before 2014 I am so sure.......zzzzz

Rugby World Cup
by katiekitten inwell its a week since johnny wilkinson kicked the frogs into touch on their home turf, and i cant wait for the match tonight.. loads of people at work have bet on an england win (not at the bookies, just in the staff sweepstakes!
) and i cant help thinking they are voting with their hearts rather than their heads.
still coming second is no shame, given how stupendously crap we have been recently.. am off for an all you can eat chinese before the match - gonna need some serious fuel for 8pm, and i think every pizza`delivery man in the land is going to be overworked.. anyone else all revved up for the limb fest that is going to be england v south africa?.

England are the epitome of all that is wrong with the game of rugby: massive, immobile, tractor forwards totally dominating with weak underused backs hardling getting a look, a game completely based around defensive kicking tactics, dour, negative, a bore. They only scored 1 try in the last 3 games of this tournament, coming very close to winning it that way. This is very sad for the game and is turning people off rugby. South Africa are only slightly better.
The only teams that came to this tournament wanting to play attractive, running rugby the way it should be played, were the All Blacks and Australia. And look what happened to them.
And this is exactly why the IRB are bringing in MAJOR changes to the rules from next year (starting with the Super 14), eg, hands in rucks will be allowed, the offside line will be 5 metres behind the scrum not the last players foot, most penalty offensives will become freekicks, etc.
It will be goodbye to the likes of Johnny Wilkinson and fat, slow props who do nothing more than walk from one maul to the next.
The 2011 tourny will be MUCH better than the rubbish we had to endure at this tournament.

New Generation Understanding
by momzcrazy inhello everyone, i am new here and newly freed from the snare of wtbs.
my sister, also newly freed, said our mom told her at the annual meeting there was a new "understanding" on the generation confusion.
it is now the annointed that will not pass away.. has anyone else heard this?

All the Society can do is keep fiddling around with the meaning of 'this generation' after 12 years of practically zilcho 'new light'. How utterly pathetic, given all the scandal over child abuse, disfellowshipping, blood transfusions, etc. Is this all JW's get, considering all the other more important false interpretations the Society uphold and that numerous websites and books ruthlessly expose. It's a sad joke for all those millions of long-suffering JW's still enthralled to the little old man behind the curtain.
JW's need to wake up and sniff the internet.

Exciting announcements at service meeting
by truthseeker inwe've already had a post on this, but there were other interesting comments.. the brother giving the announcements said that there would be a new understanding of jesus' reference to the generation as discussed at the annual meeting.. an elder giving a service meeting part review of different watchtower articles from the current year brought out the new light concerning 1935.. he asks: "when is the sealing of the anounted ones?".
elder answers: "there is no specific date".
later after the meeting, i asked an elder if the new understanding of the remnant now meant that younger people could go to heaven.. he answered with an affirmative "yes" and that we would be getting the new understanding of the generation jesus spoke of in a future 2008 watchtower.. .

Yes, but what has this got to do with the 'this generation' understanding? The Society have never officially linked 'this generation' to 1935. Are you suggesting that they are going to change the understanding of 'this generation' by saying that it means all anointed persons living during the last days (from 1914 of course)? To narrow it down to just the anointed like that would be very strange, and just another elitist ploy by the GB to elevate themselves in the minds of the rank and file (99.9% of whom have been deceived into thinking they are not anointed). Either way, the new understanding of 'this generation' from 1995 has already provided for a practically indefinite length of time for what a generation can mean. So any such change is probably more about getting ready for the time when Barr and Jaracz et al finally snuff it and all the anointed are relatively young in comparison. This would be seen as a ploy to set the stage for more younger anointed ones to take on positions of senior responsibility at Brooklyn, thats all.
The correct, and scriptural, thing for them to do is of course announce that all JW's should be taking the emblems whether or not they feel a heavenly or earthly 'calling'.
